Digital China: China’s Plans for Cyberspace & the Digital Economy (video)

Digital China: What Are China’s Leaders & Scholars Saying About Their Plans for Cyberspace?

LIVE Webcast, Oct 17, 2017, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm ET (US), from New America, Washington, D.C.

LIVE Video Tuesday:

As China launches its 19th Party Congress, its plans to shape cyberspace are becoming ever clearer. Through the publications of government and Party officials, we are increasingly getting insights into Chinese plans for the digital economy. Often however that information is only available to Chinese-speakers. Therefore, through New America, a group of China cyber experts have launched a new effort to translate and analyze key Chinese documents and make them available to a wider audience.
At this event they will offer their insights on China’s plans for the digital economy, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, internet governance, and much more. What have Chinese officials already told the world? What goals has Beijing already achieved? Where has China run into challenges? What new initiatives should we expect from the 19th Party Congress, the 4th World Internet Conference, and beyond? What does this mean for the United States?

Digital Economy: Innovation, Growth and Social Prosperity

OECD - Digital Economy: Innovation, Growth and Social Prosperity

Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting - Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development: "The digital economy permeates the world economy. Information is flowing within and across borders with unprecedented pace and volume with significant impact on innovation, trade, global value chains and society as a whole. Few aspects of our lives remain untouched by digitalisation. Meeting these challenges requires collaboration amongst all stakeholders – citizens, firms and governments - to develop new, economy wide approaches to digital economy policy development. On 21-23 June 2016, Ministers and stakeholders will gather at the Moon Palace Hotel in Cancún, Mexico, for an OECD Ministerial Meeting on the Digital Economy: Innovation, Growth and Social Prosperity, to move the digital agenda forward in four key policy areas foundational to the growth of the digital economy. Internet openness is high on policy agendas; digital trust needs to be strengthened; global connectivity is reaching an unprecedented scale, while jobs and skills are being radically transformed."

Imagine you walk into a room, and the room is dynamic. And with your permission and all of that, you are interacting with the things going on in the room.” Concluded Schmidt: “A highly personalized, highly interactive and very, very interesting world emerges.”..."
