The strategy announced by CEO Jack Dorsey is consistent with a company forging an independent path to profitability, with acquisition hopes now off the table:
"Our strategy is directly driving growth in audience and engagement, with an acceleration in year-over-year growth for daily active usage, Tweet impressions, and time spent for the second consecutive quarter. We see a significant opportunity to increase growth as we continue to improve the core service. The key drivers of future revenue growth are trending positive, and we remain confident in Twitter's future."--CEO Jack Dorsey

Tweets and Post-hearing Notes re: Cruz Hearing on IANA Transition

For background see on Domain Mondo:

Selected tweets from the twittersphere and commentary by Domain Mondo:
Dysfunctional ICANN leadership (e.g., former CEO and Board of Directors) together with lack of transparency are among the core reasons ICANN is not trusted by some members of the global multistakeholder community.

Yes, in the IANA Transition plan, governments get a limited increase in power, but post-transition all governments (including U.S.) are equal inside ICANN, i.e., it takes just 1 government to prevent GAC consensus advice. But, by virtue of ICANN's corporate domicile (California) and ICANN's election as an IRC §501(c)(3) non-profit, California and U.S. law will have precedence in most ICANN legal disputes (see, e.g., Domain Mondo's ICANN Litigation Status Update).

Potential liability under U.S. antitrust law may be one of the most important, and powerful, accountability measures on post-transition ICANN.

Preventing a "competing" internet root may be the most compelling reason to not delay the IANA transition despite misgivings about ICANN or the IANA transition plan.

What Happens in an Internet Minute in 2016 (infographic)

Courtesy of: Visual Capitalist
Courtesy of VisualCapitalist.com: Platforms such as the ones listed above are comparable in magnitude to other mega-sized companies, but without the intense capital expenditures, debt, or hard costs. That’s why Alphabet, Google’s parent company, can spend over a billion dollars each year on “moonshots.”

The full stats on what happens every internet minute:
  • 701,389 logins on Facebook
  • 69,444 hours watched on Netflix
  • 150 million emails sent
  • 1,389 Uber rides
  • 527,760 photos shared on Snapchat
  • 51,000 app downloads on Apple’s App Store
  • $203,596 in sales on Amazon.com
  • 120+ new Linkedin accounts
  • 347,222 tweets on Twitter
  • 28,194 new posts to Instagram
  • 38,052 hours of music listened to on Spotify
  • 1.04 million vine loops
  • 2.4 million search queries on Google
  • 972,222 Tinder swipes
  • 2.78 million video views on Youtube
  • 20.8 million messages on WhatsApp
This volume of data, or information, is part of the reason that these same companies are prioritizing the ability to process and interpret big data more than ever before.

Drinking the Kool-Aid With Frank Schilling

Time to pause and drink some Frank Schilling Kool-Aid on a hot summer day--I love Twitter and almost everybody loves Frank (even if you disagree with him)--so here's a selection of his Tweets (and 1 Retweet-- being the first one below) with a little Domain Mondo commentary in-between:

LOL! Little did they know!

Meaning the ones Frank owns!
CONTROL them ALL Dr. No--err--Mr. Frank!
"Bet on all of them"--oh yeah, real good advice for investors or gamblers!
Uh, Frank, you better check with De Beers on that one.
Imagine that!
Notice Frank doesn't predict the same for .TATTOO - #newgTLD remorse?
For follow-up see this
"2015 ... com flatlines" = Frank heavy into the Kool-Aid
OK, what will be at the top of that measure? .TATTOO? LOL!
A psychiatrist could have a field day psychoanalyzing the above--I'm not touching it with a ten-foot pole!
Yes, it's called fools and their money
I'm not getting between Frank and Esther Dyson!

Have a good weekend--you too, Frank!
